Senate approves TPA bill
Washington—The Senate’s bipartisan passage of trade promotion authority legislation brings the U.S. a step closer to completing ambitious trade negotiations around the world, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.
“Congressional support is critical to breaking down trade barriers and completing ambitious new trade agreements like the Trans-Pacific Partnership. TPA streamlines negotiations and strengthens our position at the bargaining table,” AFBF President Bob Stallman said in a statement. “We urge the House now to act swiftly in passing trade promotion authority to protect the future of agricultural trade.”
Stallman said the organization appreciated Sens. Orrin Hatch’s (R-Utah) and Ron Wyden’s (D-Ore.) leadership on the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (S. 995). He also thanked Majority Leader McConnell (R-Ky.) for his commitment to moving trade forward.
